Every year Dawson College participates in Docshop, an NFB sponsored competition for aspiring documentary filmmakers. In the fall semester, the NFB invites students to submit a proposal for a short documentary to be produced in the winter semester as part of the Integrating Activity.
Students (in small groups) from colleges and universities all over Quebec, and Ontario submit proposals for four-minute documentaries on the theme of “something positive, uplifting or empowering in my community.”
26 successful groups will benefit from a weekend of technical workshops at the NFB, hosted by industry professionals and will received a stipend of $300. Doc Shop has two goals: it gives the CBC and the NFB an opportunity to discover young talent, and it offers a valuable experience in documentary filmmaking to students considering a future in film and video. All videos produced by Doc Shop are considered for broadcast on CBC Television, which is first credit for aspiring filmmakers.
